Rather than post-bonding a rim around a flat or lenticular disc, Zipp incorporated their patented toroidal rim shape and used proprietary M2CM technology to increase strength while reducing drag around the interface of aluminium and carbon. For long course triathletes, the bulged cross-section offers a comfortable vertical compliance that can reduce fatigue during long stretches in the saddle. Using the PowerTap version of the 900 clincher, Jordan Rapp posted the fastest bike split at Wildflower and a win at Ironman Canada in 2009. With the ease of clinchers and optimal aerodynamics for tires up to 23mm, the 900 Clincher is the perfect choice on less-than-perfect road surfaces. This disc may also be adapted for track use.
